2013 "St. Eden" Napa Valley, Bond

Der Eigentümer des Harlan Estate Weinguts, William Harlan, gründete 1997 sein zweites Weingut. BOND, ein kleines Anwesen mit einem Portfolio an Weinen mit "Grand Cru"-Qualität, die alle unter dem Dach einer Philosophie und eines Teams. Gepflanzt ist nur Cabernet Sauvignon, die aus fünf "Grand Cru" Lagen, die zwischen 7 und 11 Hektar gross sind. Die Bond-Weine werden aus Hanglagen mit unterschiedlichen Bedingungen produziert und konzentrieren darauf, die Terroir Eigenschaften auf einzigartige Weise zu repräsentieren. Sie gehören zu den gesuchtesten Weinen aus dem Napa Valley.
Vinifiziert werden die Weine, für welche nur die besten verfügbaren Früchte aus jedem der qualitätsorientierten Weinberge verwendet werden, unter dem Management vom Kellermeister Bob Levy und dem Harlan-Team.

St. Eden Cru:
St. Eden befindet sich nördlich von Oakville Crossword und ist BONDs einzige Lage im Talboden. Die Weine dieser Lage, präsentieren sich mit Nuancen von Graphit, gerösteten Kräutern, sehr mineralisch und konzentriert. Die Tannine sind reichhaltig, aber wenn sie verweilen, wird sie die Seidigkeit dieser Weine hervorbringen. Die St. Eden Weine liegen in der Mitte der Weine, nicht so elegant wie vielleicht der Melbury und nicht so robust wie die Weine der Vecina und Plurisbus. Erster Jahrgang 2001.

Extravagant aromas of crushed raspberries and boysenberries follow through to a full body with fabulous velvety tannins and a superb finish of exotic fruit and lusciousness. Mesmerizing now but better in 2019. 

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The 2013 St. Eden is absolutely mind-blowing, with notes of blackcurrant liqueur and licorice as well as hints of Asian soy and lead pencil. Wonderful fruit that hits the palate with a cascade of glycerin, silky but noticeable tannins, and a big, earthy, rich, full-throttle, majestic finish of close to a minute add to this wine’s compelling personality. It should drink well for at least 30-40 years. The five separate single vineyards that Bill Harlan has under long-term contract continue to perform at first growth quality levels. They generate between 500 and 600 cases of these single-vineyard wines that all represent distinctive and separate micro-climates of Napa Valley. The culled out barrels that don’t make the cut are blended together for a wine called Matriarch, which in itself is a terrific offering. Last year I touted the brilliance and drama of the 2012s, which are strikingly beautiful, and the otherworldly 2013s, but now we have the fruit-forward and luscious 2014s, and although I didn’t taste them, I suspect the 2015s will reach a new qualitative pinnacle for this extraordinary visionary project of Bill Harlan and his winemaking team, led by Bob Levy.
